49301

November 4, 2018 Robin McCoy
Marathon 2.jpg

Do or don’t do. There is no try.

A fine rule, in my book.

Mission accomplished. 26.2 miles, done! All five boroughs traversed on fleet-enough feet. Money raised for a very worthy cause.

One exhausted but exhilarated runner wearing bib # 49301 earned another marathon “doubloon”. Unlike the soccer trophies (the ones highlighted in the July 12, 2017 essay, When A Trophy, Isn’t), this medal is well-deserved.

If you’ve ever run a marathon, you’ll know what I mean. I ran one once. It was a very long time ago, but the memory hasn’t faded. I know I never, ever want to do one again. I don’t even want to try! If you’ve never run one, let me assure you that the difference between 142 minutes (first place female) and 248 minutes (for #49301) is splitting hairs.

Woo-hoo Arrington!

P.S. In this picture, sent by a friend, she’s the only female- white top, black bottom. We’re pretty sure we don’t want the “suitable for framing” professional photo from the finish line.
